I'am looking for any information on Ellen Wastemnwin Iron Elk, she was born 1834 in South Dakota and died 1903 in Nebraska. I know she was married to Standing Soldier and they had a daughter named Nancy Standing Soldier Hazaicuwin who was married to Henry Jones. I'am trying to find out if she was a sibling to Taopi. I'am also trying to find information on Blue Bird Woman was she the grandmother of Reverand William Holmes?

I wish I knew who her parents were. Ellen was not born in South dakota according to my records. The records I have access to show her dying in 1909. You have her confused with Ellen, the sister of Old Betsey, who died in Minnesota.
Re. William Holmses. yes zitkadantowin was his grandmother.

We are trying find out who Ellen Iron Elk was, we cannot find any information other than what info you gave me. Who is Ellen Iron Elk born in 1834? All we were able to find is the following: We have a copy of the Episcopal baptismal record with a note stating she was baptised at LaquParle, Minnesota; On Ft. Snellen List under Taopi's Band, Ellen(Wastemnawin) is listed as person #9 under Taopi, so is she a sibling or related?: We are trying to find out what family group she belongs to and who were her parents.
Rev. William Holmes born 1861: Father-Marshall F. Holmes, we are trying to find out what happened to Marshall. Mother-Wicanhpiotawin (Many Stars Woman), is she a daughter of zitkadantowin (Blue Bird Woman) and Wabashaw? What is Blue Bird Woman's english name? Was Wicanhpiotawin Wabashaws daughter? If so, which Wabashaw? What english name did Wabashaw have?
On the 1851 &1860 Annuity rolls Katokan is listed-complete name is mahpiyakatokan, what is the tranlation? What was Joseph Graham listed as on the rolls? Is he Katokan?
These are questions were trying to get answered to proceed in completing our family history. If you or anybody else have any info pertaining to these questions or comments, we would really appeciate your assistance.

Re. Ellen Wastemaniwin, I do not know if she was any relation to Taopi. Her husband iron Elk was imprisoned at Mankato, and Taopi's band may have taken her in with them at Fort snelling.Iron Elk was the chief of his own band.
You will have to contact the NARA to get Ellen's Heirship Report. Contact Mary Frances.Ronan@nara.gov and give her Ellen's Indian and english names, when she died and her tribal affiliation. If she has an Heirship Report, it may list who her relations were.
Contact Louis Garcia at Louis_Garcia@littlehoop.edu for help with the translation of Katokan's name.
Question: what connection does William Holmes, and Joseph Graham have to do with your Ellen Wastemaniwin? what is your documentation for the name of his father?

Just to add a note here when you get back into the 1834 it was before most white man came in to our country and so there is no english names for people only their real names which are in Dakota or Nakota.
Back then if the parents died they would not say their name again so it is hard to trace back that far for most native families unless oral tradition is alive in the family and they were told.
